Each Rovos Rail train is a masterpiece of restoration, featuring wood-panelled carriages, fine dining, and just 36 suites that accommodate a maximum of 72 guests—ensuring intimacy and exclusivity throughout your journey. Whether you’re on a 48-hour escape or a grand 16-night expedition, you’ll enjoy carefully designed off-train excursions, exceptional onboard hospitality, and access to private lounges and viewing platforms.
For special events, the Rovos Events Train welcomes up to 250 passengers for bespoke daytime experiences. Travellers can also customise itineraries by combining short and long journeys and take advantage of exclusive seasonal collections and discounts. Each Rovos Rail train is thoughtfully designed to offer both elegance and comfort, evoking the romance of a bygone era. Onboard facilities include beautifully restored accommodation carriages, two charming dining cars (seating approximately 42 guests), a lounge car (±26 seats), a smoking lounge (±11 seats), and an observation car (±32 seats) with an open-air balcony—perfect for taking in Africa’s vast landscapes. True to its classic character, there are no televisions or radios onboard, encouraging guests to unwind and truly disconnect.
Guests can choose from three suite categories—Pullman (7m²), Deluxe (10m²), and Royal (16m²)—each offering a refined and tranquil space to relax in. Suites are available in double or twin-bed configurations and feature en-suite bathrooms with a shower, toilet, and basin, while Royal Suites also include a Victorian-style bathtub. Amenities include air conditioning, tea-making facilities, in-room safes, plush linens, and daily housekeeping. Storage space includes small wardrobes with shelves and hangers. We welcome solo travelers, couples, and groups, with dining cars offering both intimate two-seaters and sociable four-seater tables. The lounge and observation cars—with panoramic windows, plush sofas, and cozy booths—are ideal for conversation, reading, or simply watching the scenery pass by.
Dining on Rovos Rail is a refined experience, with a strong focus on locally sourced ingredients and traditional South African recipes. An experienced team of chefs prepares each dish with care, complemented by a curated selection of fine South African wines. All meals are served in a single sitting in the dining cars:

The Suites

Each wood-panelled suite is a tribute to timeless craftsmanship, fully refurbished to immaculate condition and fitted with modern amenities.
